Autumn in central New York...

Central New York State in Autumn...
get there as fast as you can...
you won't be disappointed...

Can it be? ALREADY? Autumn?
The temperature reveals that Autumn is on it's way into town. I'm not happy that summer is coming to an end, but I love everything about Autumn. The air smells cleaner, the leaves (where I live in the northeast) will be a spectacular riot of yellows, oranges and reds. It's difficult for me not to think about picking up a paint brush!
Decorating is easy and fun this time of year...more organic and reflective of the vibrant colors we see in our landscape.
I painted this wooden bowl a couple of years ago.

FIREFLIES
In the early hours of a summer's eve,
the dark is a-light with magic.
Children playing hide-and-seek,
illuminated by the light of a silvery moon.
The momentary pin-point of light,
breaks the darkness.
The children's interest is peaked,
as they run to find mason jars.
The fireflies are back!
Lighting the dark with magic!

Memorial weekend...part 3
In the previous couple of posts, I mentioned that last weekend was a busy one. I had a four-day weekend and I used every second of it. On Friday, after a checkup at my dentist , I went to one of my favorite antique shops. They are only open a few times a year, mostly on holiday weekends. But, anyway...this is what I see on the way to The Granary...
There is a road (they are 'roads' in the country, not 'streets') called Rose Hill Road, on that road is a sign that says, Rose Hill. It's the name of the little community with that name. I was told that the community, which is about 3 miles east of Skaneateles, was settled in the early 1800's.
The three previous pictures are of a building on Rose Hill that a few years ago, was a small country shop. The owner of that shop once told me that it was, many years ago, the General Store at Rose Hill. Unfortunately, it's in a little bit of disrepair, but it's kind of cool inside. I haven't been in in a few years, but last time I was, the dry goods counter was still there as was the shelving behind it.
I grew up in LaFayette, NY, (about 10 miles south of Syracuse) known for their many Apple Orchards. Sometime around 1972, a group of people got together and planned the first annual LaFayette Apple Festival. It's the primary fund raiser for all clubs and organizations in town. The 'Apple Fest' lures thousands of visitors every year. After moving several times over the years (always within town limits, of course), the organization purchased a permanent home for the Apple Fest at a former Apple Farm. The festival grounds are within walking distance of the site where the 'Cardiff Giant' was unearthed in 1869. Please, click on the link for the Fest to learn more. People come far and wide to visit the Fest or to sell their wares as there are 400+ crafters every year.
