Food for thought...looking forward...

Just something to keep in mind as the winter days linger and the snow keeps us in...

***Nine weeks from today, March 9th...Daylight Savings Time begins...

***Ten weeks from today, March 20th...First Day of Spring!

Now, how's that for goals??

Serenity Sunday...week 78

CHRIS: Morning Cicely. 8:00 A.M. muchachos. Time to finish those flapjacks, knock back that second cup of joe, get ready to greet the day. Temperature's creeping towards double digits as the solar drought continues--23 days, an average of an hour and a half of sunlight every day. No relief on the horizon. Which only makes sense cause there is no horizon. Our friends at the weather service are calling for another storm and as we know, they've been batting a thousand lately. Hey, let's check our social calendar. Nothing. Total blank. It's cabin fever season people, that time of year when four walls feel like they're going to come in here and choke the spirit right out of you. Time to lock away those firearms and hang tough. No way through it except to do it.

I hope you enjoyed another glimpse of the wisdom that the character 'Chris' shared with us on the TV show Northern Exposure. As always, the writers hit the nail on the head. Somehow, this show always comes to mind in the winter here in central New York...it must be all the snow....
HAPPY NEW YEAR! This time of year, there is so much to look forward to and so much to let go of. It's time to reevaluate your priorities, chart new goals and look at the long-run. Take a look at your relationships...improve what needs to be improved. Take a look at yourself...figure out what makes 'you' tick and expand the qualities you feel are your best and improve what needs work. We are all a work in progress and what better time of year to become the new and improved version of yourself, than the new year? I don't look at it as a 'resolution' per say...just a new goal...

Serenity Sunday...Week 7

In a Balloon

In a balloon, I can soar far into the sky,
Beyond any false boundaries,
beyond the limits of gravity.
I am the pilot, and the navigator,
mapping my own course,
letting my heart guide the way.

In a balloon, I can see far into my future,
and I can retrace my past adventures,
using memories and life lessons…
to better plot my new path.

In a balloon, I can see clearly
the mistakes and triumphs
that are the footsteps of my life,
the passage that brought me to this new journey.

In a balloon, I can do all of this,
With faith, hope and confidence,
without fear and self-doubt,
And still believe in my heart,
I am my own pilot.

It's been a while...

I know it's been a while, but I was caught up in trying to figure out just where I wanted this blog to go. I was deciding where to categorize it into one 'type' of blog. I know there are some that are just poetry, just decorating, just artwork, just antiquin' and junkin', but why can't I have it all?? I'd like to make this a sort of journal, to write down thoughts, inspirations, antiquin' adventures and anything else my brain deems important enough to write down.
So....my decision is this....expect the unexpected, anything goes in this blog. I'll save Sundays for poetry...and as for the rest, I'll make it up as I go along. It's difficult for creative people to follow rules, conform, only see what's 'in-the-box'. Consider me a creative sort and we'll work this out easily.

Spring...new beginnings, fresh starts...

SPRING....new beginnings, fresh starts and all that goes with it. That's where we are. Mother Nature is giving us a helping hand. For me it seems that spring is a better time for renewal than the new year. It's when the air is freshly washed and the soil has been turned to reveal new growth. We "spring clean" to invoke a sense of cleanliness, why not 'clean' ourselves of the old and renew our attitudes? Seems to me it's should be a regular part of our spring ritual. Enjoy your spring and do whatever it is that makes you the best you can be....

FOOTSTEPS
Slowly, methodically,
I retraced my footsteps,
reached far back into my memory,
remembered the moments of my life.
I looked for the where’s, when’s,
the what’s, and how’s,
the who’s and why’s,
that brought me to today.
I needed to find out what shaped me,
molded me, into the person I am.
The trip down memory lane made me realize
that I didn’t regret a moment of my life.
I didn’t want to change anything at all,
because changing only one moment,
one decision, would have changed
not only my life, but the lives of those I love.
When I reached my destination,
It was clear to me who I am,
And I was pleased to have taken the journey.
